Bats, Germs, and Lab Accidents – The Mysterious Origin of SARS-CoV-2

Listen Now:

Episode Synopsis

Scientists have yet to offer a coherent picture of how, when and where the Covid-19 pandemic started. Some tests on banked blood indicate the virus might have been circulating months before it was officially identified. Meanwhile, the closest known viruses to SARS-CoV-2 come from bats that live far from Wuhan, where the virus was first discovered. Scientists can’t yet dismiss the possibility that the virus was released by accident from the Wuhan Institute of Virology – and it’s not clear a WHO investigative team will be able to solve the mystery.
